Hotels
in Barbados
An
aerial view of Barbados’ and its 97 km coastline is enough
to lure you for a secluded spot of snorkeling, scuba diving,
swimming, surfing, strolling or even sunbathing. But then it
has other attractions as well, all of which together make tourism
a big business in Barbados. Even the locals are friendly and
obliging which adds to the feeling of being welcome.
It
is a small and quaint island, perhaps the smallest of the east
Carribean islands. Besides the exotic beaches, Barbados also
has an old world English charm about it. There are Anglican
churches, like the St. James Church, which give the island
that distinct character. Then you will also see some very old
portraits of English aristocracy. Some of its major tourist
attractions are Bridgetown harbour, Carlisle Bay, Sam Lord’s
Castle, Folkestone Park, Holetown a town that dates back to
the 1600s. The streets around Bridgetown, for that matter all
over Barbados, are wide and you would find rum shops scattered
in the area. Bridgetown is the island’s only natural
harbour. Sam Lord’s Castle built from limestone echoes
with legends about his adventures. The legend goes that he
harboured here in order to lure ships onto Cobbler’s
Reef and then later steal their cargo. The castle still retains
an array of paintings and furnishings from Sam Lord’s
time.
Guests could also take in a museum of a different
kind on the marine. This one has fishing and ship building exhibits.
